Cancer Alert

A recent study by the Mumbai-based Tata Memorial Hospital points out that the city will see a worrying rise in breast cancer in women -by 2025 breast cancer cases will in fact double. According to the 30-year study, it’s older women who are most vulnerable. Breast cancer cases among younger women are increasing by 1% every year and by 1.6%  among older women. The study highlights the urgent need for better cancer care programs in public hospitals and more awareness campaigns.

This link has some relevant information which I wanted to share through my blog. The figures pertain to the United States alone, but the message about early detection is relevant to all of us. Visit  http://www.onlinenursingprograms.com/code-pink/

  1. Can we not have bra manufacturers become advocates for healthy breasts..Urging compulsory self examination along with size assessment to ensure correct fit..esp for the high risk age bands?

The campaigns can be across stores and malls..

It will create awareness..and help create databases..and registries..and enhance detection..

  2. Wow that was strange. I just wrote an very long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t show up. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Anyway, just wanted to say wonderful blog!

  3. Shai – how many of women above 40 do a regular annual check up any ways . A pap smear and mamogram is still far away . While it could be a question of affordability for many it is also taking our health for granted .
